Synopsis
Two young friends struggle to survive and grapple with maturity after losing their jobs at the Statue of Liberty following 9/11. Dominican-born Derrick has dreams of going to college and escaping the ghetto at last. But he is held back by low-wage jobs, child support payments and the detours and dramas of street life. Hot-headed Tico is Derrick’s best friend and worst adversary, leading a life of low-grade hustling schemes (selling drugs to white hipsters, orchestrating fraudulent car accidents for insurance money) and endless skirt-chasing.
When Derrick has an opportunity to join the army right before the US invasion of Iraq, his and Tico’s lives – and futures – will clash as never before.
