Synopsis
This musical drama takes us on a tour of the life of Benny Moré. Beginning in the early 1950s when Moré leaves the orchestra of Duany and starts his own ‘Banda Gigante,’ Moré intersects with the major events of his time – the music and the politics. Caught up in the plot connected to Batista's coup in Cuba, he flees to Venezuela where he enjoys great success but suffers the machinations of a vengeful businessman. Through it all his life is marked by his great love for girlfriend, Aida, and his alcoholic battles with that old demon, rum.
Back in Cuba, with Aida’s love and support, Moré steadies himself for a time, but soon alcohol and danger return. Blessed with extraordinary talent, he tragically falls victim to thinking he is the god his adoring fans proclaim him to be, and, therefore, beyond the rules and limits of mere mortals.
