Synopsis
Children of the War is the first feature-length documentary to tell the story of the world’s largest and most violent street gang, the Mara Salvatrucha, also known as MS-13.
Spanning the Americas with an estimated membership of 100,000 people, the MS-13 has been declared by the FBI to be the fastest-growing and most dangerous street gang in the United States. Through a series of over 80 interviews with the gang’s founders, gang members, experts and academics, as well as footage shot inside jails in El Salvador and on the gang-infested streets of Los Angeles, the film sheds light on the personal reasons for MS-13 membership, the ensuing explosion of violence both inside and outside of the gang, and the complex role social and government policy have played both in containing and aggravating the gang’s proliferation.
